My Beautiful Wickedness

Didn’t really want him there anyhow

Bush thinks he’s going to have to miss the RNC convention because of the pending arrival of Hurricane Gustav.

He was stuck either way. Party leaders confessed relief that he’d be speaking late on Monday night when everyone would be Labor Day’d out and going to bed early for work the next day…they are going to have to run away from his presidency if they want to pick up votes. If he showed, what would he have to talk about? And then there would be the Nero factor — he’d have been accused of once again being in the wrong place at the wrong time, showing no leadership when leadership was called for, and lapping up the accolades rather than…you know, manning the pumps or carrying buckets or whatever critics thinks a president could actually do besides authorize, authorize, authorize in a crisis.

Anyhow, it’s a good call to stay home. Now they don’t have to be embarrassed by Bush and Bush might avoid being embarrassed in the media. If there’s anything that Americans crave, too, is a redemption story. Maybe he’ll get it right this time.
