My Beautiful Wickedness

Snow fell all day

I woke up to the kind of snow that sits on top of branches and waits for a passing squirrel to kick it off in clumps or ravens to scoop by the beakful to drink. Feathery gentle flakes were drifting down like a lazy afterthought, soon forgotten in a pile of intentions that don’t amount to much. This kind of snow, utterly white, utterly benign, floated in the air all day long and now into the night. Snowflakes slow enough to breathe in, big enough to make you cough.  A good daydreaming snow. A good writing snow.

There’s nothing like a good writing snow. That’s one of the reasons I love Minnesota so much and am loathe to leave — one can usually count on at least five straight months of scholarly weather.
