My Beautiful Wickedness

War will cost at least twice as much as promised

Who plans for a war without planning for the cost of caring for wounded veterans? Or exercising forethought about the variability of prices? Or considering the impact of lost income? Or adding in the cost of reservist salaries? The Washington Post and BBC are reporting that Congress, through the Joint Economic Committee, has concluded the war is going to cost roughly twice as much as advertised because many things that we will be paying for over the next forty years were — oopsie — just left off the bill.

Their report notes that this war will cost the average US family between $20k and $45k (depending on oil prices, which have more than tripled since the start of the war). Whew. And they say there’s no real sacrifice on the homefront.

Now are you motivated to go out and help end this war?
