My Beautiful Wickedness

I came across this blog and have been unexpectedly moved by Chris Coppola’s efforts to provide decent medical care for all comers in Balad, Iraq. Sometimes they are our soldiers. Sometimes they are coalition troops. Sometimes they are insurgents. Maany times they are civilians, children, babies. He treats them all, compassionately and as thoroughly as he can under the circumstances. He used to do his thing in a series of tents, like M*A*S*H. Now he’s got some walls. He and the other staffers are doing exhausting work, keeping people alive because they are people.

Heroic. Just fucking heroic (and sad, and awe-inspiring, and humbling, and whatall.) I wish our diplomacy was conducted with as much valor, wisdom, and commitment to the task as our war seems to be.
