by listening to what they have to say about the war in Iraq.

Why does it matter that they are sergeants? Because an army in the field runs on the experience, administrative ability, and loyalty of sergeants. Think about this in Hollywood terms. When you want the straight shit about how the war proceedeth, you talk to Vic Morrow (Sgt. Saunders in the old Combat series, for you young’uns). When an army’s NCOs are so at odds with the rest of the chain of command that they print their grievances in the NYT…well, I think that bodes poorly. Like I needed more indications that shit was not going well.

This is a stunning and eloquent editorial.

We are definitely moving in the wrong direction. They paint the “surge” as a huge sham and a total failure, and their revelations about what it is like on the ground in Iraq are amazing, especially that the Iraqi Army and police ARE the insurgents, and are planting IEDs.

I wish our ridiculous leadership would listen to their calls for a radical change in mission where we stop dictating to the Iraqis and let them hash out their bullshit while we only assist on the margins.

This editorial is a MUST READ, and I thank you for posting it! I would’ve missed it otherwise.
