Trade routes in the 10th century actually stretched from Europe through Afghanistan and India to China (Sind, Hind, and Chind, in contemporary accounts). There was one China-India-Central Asia-Middle East or Arabian Sea-North Africa-Iberia route, and another British Isles-Scandinavia-Russia-Black Sea route (that was the Vikings). They met up in Constantinople and Antioch. Someone’s coins had come a loong way.
