My Beautiful Wickedness

Bet you haven’t heard about this.

The Pentagon is regularly making use of Regulation 635-200, Chapter 5-13: “Separation Because of Personality Disorder” discharge for combat veterans. They discharge guys fucked up by combat and claim that the mental and emotional trauma that they are suffering from stems from a pre-existing condition. Last year, nearly 1000 men and women were cut from the ranks using this regulation. When that happens, the serviceperson discharged under Regulation 635-200, Chapter 5-13 loses all future benefits. They can neither collect disability pay for life-altering injuries sustained in combat nor are they entitled to medical care through the VA for those very combat injuries or anything else. Since PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) and TBI (traumatic brain injury) are two of the most common casualties suffered by deployed troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, one can see where the problem lies in this shameful practice.

Here. Read Jon Town’s story.

I learned about it from the always excellent Blue Girl.
