My Beautiful Wickedness

Today was “Parents and Special Friends Day” at my kid’s Montessori. She asked us both to attend — one for her, one for her best friend K., whose parents couldn’t make it. Her school has excellent parent involvement; many children had an entire posse of parents, grandparents, and other family members as well. The classroom is clean, bright, and orderly. The kids are excited to show us their work. My kid did a complex negative integers problem (for me, this was introduced in seventh grade) and then she took me to the botany cabinet to work on learning different types of leaves. K. sang a song that she had composed (a variation of “This Little Light of Mine”) and then we all made plaster of paris fossils as souvenirs. We ended the morning with the kids fixing us breakfast.

Dang. I just love it there. It’s so peaceful and happy.

Anyhow, one of the kids who was rehearsing his part in MacBeth was goofing around and missed his cue. The irritated kid playing MacBeth said “Won’t you ever grow up?” The other kid said “No…grow up too much and you die.”

Words to live by.
