My Beautiful Wickedness

Mythology mania has hit!

It’s like a train running right on time. First with the Shakespeare, then with the going nutty on mythology. I read Hamilton and Bulfinch when I was her age, but I remember that there was an element of stunt about doing it. (My brother was also reading these in high school and I wanted to show him he wasn’t so smart.) Truthfully, it was a little dry. There has to be something better aimed at her age group now. Anyone know something that doesn’t gloss over the gore and the rapine but also doesn’t dwell on it, eye-catching in its illustrations, and written for an intelligent kid? Oh, and it has to have an adequate representation of women in it — that’s her talking, not me — because “the women and the women monsters are some of the most interesting parts.”

Hey, librarian types…hook me up!
